Shakespeare Like You’ve Never Seen It Before
Our beautiful school grounds were transformed into an enchanting open-air theatre on Thursday evening as Year 7 students delighted audiences with a captivating performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at our annual Shakespeare in the Garden event.
Performing to an audience of current and prospective families, the girls demonstrated remarkable confidence, creativity and teamwork as they brought Shakespeare’s much-loved comedy to life. Their assured performances, expressive storytelling and infectious enthusiasm reflected the courage and character that define a St Mary’s education.
One of Shakespeare’s most memorable lines, “Though she be but little, she is fierce,” perfectly captured the spirit of the evening. It is a sentiment that embodies the St Mary’s journey, where every girl is encouraged to grow in confidence, discover her voice and flourish both on and off the stage.
The event also provided prospective families with a wonderful opportunity to experience the warmth of our school community, enjoy the beautiful setting and see first-hand the exceptional opportunities available to our pupils.
Headmaster Mr Lars Fox said: “Our Shakespeare in the Garden performance was a wonderful celebration of everything we value at St Mary’s. Watching our Year 7 girls perform with such confidence, creativity and joy was incredibly inspiring. Opportunities like this allow every pupil to challenge themselves, develop resilience and discover talents they may never have realised they had. I am immensely proud of every girl who took part.”
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to all of our Year 7 performers for their dedication, energy and commitment throughout rehearsals, and to the families and prospective pupils who joined us for such a memorable evening.
A special thank you goes to Mrs Birkett, whose vision, passion and unwavering commitment made this magical production possible. Her dedication to creating unforgettable experiences continues to inspire our girls and enrich school life in so many ways.
