Forest School
For an afternoon a week, girls in Little St Mary’s explore our dedicated Forest School site. It is certainly a highlight for many – not only is it an opportunity to let off steam but the bug hunts, talking trees, fire lighting, and activities using natural materials allow our girls to immerse themselves in nature and explore the world in which we live.
Run by our qualified Forest School teachers, Forest School sessions encourage girls to learn how to take risks safely, and to build key skills including resilience, self-esteem, and confidence through experimenting with and investigating the world around them. Forest School is based on learning through unplanned, child-initiated learning opportunities – imaginations are empowered to run wild and girls are encouraged to direct their own learning based on their interests.
The value of outdoor play and learning, moving around, exploring the woodland around us and connecting to nature, is highly important as it supports the girls’ mental health and well-being.
