Co-Curricular

The co-curricular opportunities at St Mary’s are comprehensive and vast, offering something for everyone. Students are encouraged to embrace the opportunities on offer, have a go, and take part so that they can flourish as individuals. We have over 120 clubs on offer every term, and the schedule changes regularly to maximise the number of clubs that students can attend.

Participation in co-curricular activities is a way to fuel learning outside of the classroom by stimulating creative thought, improving social and organisational skills, developing interests and talents, and offering students the chance to discover something they really enjoy – girls will often push themselves out of their comfort zones in situations where they are doing something they enjoy and when they feel comfortable and at ease.

If a student, or group of students, has an interest they would like to pursue, or share with others, that isn’t on the co-curricular timetable, they are empowered to launch a club of their own. Seizing these opportunities is a fantastic way to develop leadership skills.

Our co-curricular programme is integral to the success of St Mary’s girls. Through rising to the challenge, and having the opportunity to excel both in and beyond the academic arena, our girls become resilient, confident and develop belief in themselves.

The St Mary’s Co-Curricular Challenge

At St Mary’s we expect all our girls to participate in at least one club or society for the whole year.

  • Girls receive the Bronze ‘St Mary’s Challenge’ award if they participate (and have 80% attendance) in two activities throughout all three terms.
  • Silver is awarded for participation in three activities in all three terms and showing leadership skills in at least one of them.
  • Gold award if an individual participates in four activities in all three terms and show leadership skills in at least two of them.
  • Platinum is awarded is for Sixth Form students who plan, organise, and lead a club for younger members of the school in all three terms.
