We fully understand the importance of choosing the right school for your daughter to ensure she is in a setting where she will be happy and excel in all aspects of school life. Our Registrar, Mrs Liz Szczerbiak, is here to support you every step of the way on your admission journey at St Mary’s.

There is no such thing as looking at schools too early. As demand for places grows, we do have waiting lists in most year groups. To avoid disappointment, we encourage registering your daughter to join us as early as possible.

We will endeavour to make the application process as easy as possible for you. The key steps in your admissions journey are below, and key dates for 2025 entry can be found here:

1. Visit St Mary’s

Meeting our staff and students and hearing their experiences will bring to life the St Mary’s experience for you and your daughter. You can register for an upcoming Open Event here, or email our Registrar to arrange an individual tour on a normal school day. All tours are hosted by a current student, and you will also have the opportunity to meet with our Headmistress, Mrs Adams.

2. Register

The next step in the process to join St Mary’s is to register your daughter which you can do by completing this form and paying the registration and assessment fee (£100 for Nursery – Year 2 and Year 13 and £200 for Year 3 – 11).

For Sixth Form Admissions, please register your daughter using this form and paying the £100 registration fee.

3. Assessment

All applicants go through an assessment process to ensure they are right for St Mary’s and importantly, that we are the right school for them. The format of the assessment is dependent on the year of entry:

Nursery and Reception – you will be invited for a stay and play where staff will observe your daughter and assess whether she will thrive in Little St Mary’s.

Prep – applicants will be invited for an experience day, where they will spend the day with their peers. During the day, there will be a short assessment in Numeracy and Literacy and, from 7+, non-verbal reasoning. Girls will also spend time in lessons to meet their peers and experience St Mary’s.

Senior – all applicants for Year 7 and up will join us for a group assessment day in the first half of Year 6. During the day girls will take assessments in maths, English, verbal and non-verbal reasoning. The day also has lots of other fun activities for the girls to start to get to know each other. They will also have an interview with our Headmistress, Mrs Adams during the process.

Sixth Form – Entry into Year 12 is based on academic ability – a minimum of 5 GCSEs grades 9 – 5 and a minimum of a grade 6 in the subjects to be studied at A Level. All applicants will also have an interview with our Headmistress and Head of Sixth Form.

A reference will be sought from the applicant’s current school upon receipt of the registration form (except for early years).

4. Offer

An offer of a place is usually made within a week after the assessment, except for entry into Year 7 when an offer is made within 2-3 weeks.

5. Transition to St Mary's

Once a place for your daughter(s) has been accepted we offer lots of opportunities to build relationships with students and staff, and to get to know our school before starting with us. These differ dependent on the year group of entry and activities range from taster days, offer breakfasts and visits from staff to the student’s current setting to opportunities to watch school productions or attending Open Events. The aim is that, when your daughter starts with us, the staff know her, and you, and that you know us, resulting in a smooth transition to St Mary’s.
