A Remarkable Term of Sporting Success at St Mary’s School

St Mary’s School has enjoyed an exceptional term of sporting success, with pupils across all year groups demonstrating outstanding talent, determination, and teamwork across a wide range of sports and events.

Swimming Success

The swimming team has shown great commitment throughout the year and continues to perform at a high level.

In the Wycombe Abbey Swimming league, we are currently awaiting final team results; however, standout performances have already been achieved. Darcey and Gabriella both set new gala records in the Individual Medley, an exceptional accomplishment and a testament to their dedication and skill.

Netball Success Across the School

Netball has also been a major strength this term, with excellent performances across all age groups.

Our Year 7 team showed fantastic teamwork at the Kingsmead Tournament, clearly demonstrating how much their skills have developed over the past two terms. They have finished 3rd in their league overall.

The Year 8 squad has performed strongly throughout the season, finishing 4th in the district tournament and competing impressively at the ISA National Finals. The Year 8A team also secured 3rd place at the ISA London North U13 Regional Tournament, earning qualification for the National Finals.

The Year 9 teams delivered outstanding results throughout the season. The Year 9 squad finished 2nd out of 17 teams at the Chiltern District Tournament, while the Year 9B team recorded notable victories, including a 12–11 win against Misbourne School and a 10–1 win over The Beaconsfield School.

Our Year 10 team achieved excellent results in the league this season, reflecting consistent effort and strong teamwork. They have finished 2nd in their league this season.

The Year 11 team has enjoyed a fantastic season. They have been a pleasure to coach—hardworking, committed, and exemplary in their attitude throughout.

Younger pupils have also excelled. The U9 team finished runners-up at the ISA Netball Tournament, the Year 6 team placed 2nd at Gayhurst School, and the Year 5 team demonstrated fantastic teamwork and sportsmanship at the ISA London North Netball Festival.

National-Level Gymnastics Success

Gymnastics has been a standout highlight this term, with remarkable achievements at both regional and national level.

Our U11 gymnastics team achieved an extraordinary 2nd place nationally at the BSGA Milano Finals—the highest finish in the school’s history at this prestigious competition. Competing against schools from across the UK, the team delivered an exceptional performance.

St Mary’s was also proud to host the South Region BSGA Floor & Vault Competition, welcoming 23 teams across multiple age groups. Our gymnasts performed brilliantly, with every participant earning a medal. Team results included:

  • U11 – 1st place
  • U13 – 2nd place
  • U16 – 3rd place (just 0.7 points from 2nd)

Following this success, the U11 team has qualified for the National Finals in Stoke-on-Trent this May, representing the South region.

At the ISGA 5-piece National Finals, our U10 gymnasts competed against top schools from across the UK as well as international teams. The team secured an impressive 5th place overall, with Hermione achieving an outstanding 5th place individually, alongside a 5th place finish in the group routine.

Individual Sporting Excellence

This term has also seen pupils shine individually.

De’elle continues to excel in basketball, representing the London Cavaliers and supporting younger players through coaching. Her recent victory at the Grenfell Memorial Basketball Tournament highlights both her skill and leadership.

In Golf, Mehar has achieved outstanding success. Now playing off a handicap of 10, she won the national Race to Woodhall Spa, a remarkable accomplishment that reflects her dedication and talent.

Leadership and Opportunities in Sport

Sport at St Mary’s extends beyond competition, with pupils developing leadership skills and embracing new opportunities.

Orla, Abigail, Lily, and Heidi demonstrated this at the Year 3 & 4 Football Festival, confidently leading activities and supporting younger pupils.

Building on a highly successful gymnastics programme, the school is also pleased to announce new Gymnastics Scholarships for upcoming entry points. These scholarships are designed to support talented gymnasts balancing high-level training with academic excellence, with opportunities for both current and prospective pupils to get involved through upcoming taster sessions.

A Thriving School Community

The term has also included memorable whole-school events. The Gym & Dance Show was a fantastic celebration of creativity and performance, made possible by the dedication of staff and students alike.

Looking ahead, St Mary’s is excited to take part in the GX Fun Run Together event in May 2026, bringing the school community together for a fun and active day.

Looking Ahead

This term has been a true reflection of the spirit of St Mary’s—commitment, resilience, and a passion for excellence. From national podium finishes to leadership opportunities and community events, pupils have excelled in every area.

We are incredibly proud of all our students and look forward to building on this success in the months ahead.
