Award-Winning Performance Earns Double Honours at Drama Festival

We are delighted to celebrate the success of our talented Middle School drama group, who received an Honourable Mention for Best Production for their performance of Our Day Out at this year’s drama festival.

The cast, comprising Lara, Zara, Emma, Poppy Kelly, Ella, Ria, Melody, Amelia, Lillian, Niah, Amelie and Felicity, impressed the judges with a lively and engaging performance that captured the spirit of Willy Russell’s much-loved play.

The judges praised the production’s strong sense of setting from the very beginning and were particularly impressed by the cast’s convincing Liverpudlian accents, noting that these were “highly commendable for this age group”. They highlighted the strength of the characterisation throughout the performance, as well as the cast’s excellent projection, diction and commitment to their roles.

Special mention was made of the ensemble’s ability to create a believable and entertaining school trip atmosphere, with effective background action maintaining the audience’s immersion in the story. The judges also commended the balance of humour and poignancy in key scenes, supported by a carefully chosen nostalgic soundtrack.

Their feedback concluded:

“Overall, an excellent ensemble piece with impressive commitment – nicely done St Mary’s!”

Adding to the celebration, Lara received an Honourable Mention for Convincing Characterisation for her outstanding portrayal of Linda. This special award recognised her ability to bring the character to life with authenticity, confidence and skill.
