Scholarships and Bursaries
At St Mary’s School, our scholarship programmes are designed to recognise exceptional talent, nurture ambition and provide outstanding opportunities for girls to thrive academically, creatively and athletically. From our U9 Gymnastics Scholarship in the Prep School to Year 7 and Sixth Form scholarships across a range of disciplines, successful applicants benefit from specialist coaching, tailored enrichment programmes and fee remissions or bursary support. Our scholars play an active role in school life, embracing leadership opportunities and acting as inspiring role models within the St Mary’s community.

U9 Gymnastics Scholarship
- U9 (Ages 5-8) Gymnastics Scholarship 2026 Scholarship Application Deadline: Friday 5 June 2026 by midday – scroll down for application form.
About the Scholarship:
Alongside structured training and access to bespoke coaching, the U9 Gymnastics Scholarship is available to girls joining the Prep School from an external school (Years 2–6) in 2026 and offers up to 33% remission on fees through a combination of scholarships and bursaries. Up to three U9 Gymnastics Scholarships will be available across the Prep School and awarded to the most promising gymnasts.
Scholarship Term:
- U9 Gymnastics Scholarship (Years 2 – 6) is held until the end of Year 6. Provided that students continue to meet all the expectations of a scholar.

- All applicants wishing to apply for a scholarship must first formally register for a place at St Mary’s.

Scholarships at St Mary’s aim to nurture and recognise exceptional talent. Our scholars play a key role in the life of St Mary’s – they excel in their subject, embrace the opportunities the specialist programme presents and act as role models for their peers.
Each year, St Mary’s School awards a number of scholarships at Year 7 entry in the following subjects:
- Academic

- Drama
- Dance
- Gymnastics
- Music
- Sport
About the Scholarships:
The application process celebrates the achievements, aspirations, and skills of each individual. Successful scholars benefit from a comprehensive scholarship programme tailored to their subject, which may include workshops, trips, masterclasses, leadership opportunities, conferences, competitions and more, along with a fee remission of 5–10%. In addition, a means-tested Bursary may also be awarded. Honorary Scholarships, which provide access to the tailored scholarship programme without fee remission, will also be awarded to talented pupils.
Scholarship Term:
- Scholarships offered to pupils joining in Year 7 are held until the end of Year 11. Provided that students continue to meet all the expectations of a scholar.

2. Art, Drama, Dance, Gymnastics, Music, Sport – please review the scholarship application criteria on the forms below and submit all relevant supporting information and documentation required for your application.
Academic – there is no separate application required for the Academic Scholarship. Students who perform highly on the assessment day will automatically be considered for an Academic Scholarship award. Please register for a place to sit the Year 7 entrance assessment.
Sixth Form 16+

About the Academic, Art, Drama, Music and Sport Scholarships:

About the Year 12 Excellence Awards – 50% Scholarship:
Two scholarships are available for girls entering Year 12, based on GCSE mock exam performance in Years 10 and 11:
1. Excellence Award
- For one girl with an average score of 8 across all Year 10 and 11 mock exams.
2. STEM Excellence Award
- For one girl with an average score of 8.5 across four STEM subjects.
Scholarship Term:
- Year 12 Excellence Awards and Scholarships are held until the end of Year 13. Provided that students continue to meet all the expectations of a scholar.
Application Process:
Academic scholarship candidates will be asked to sit the academic paper and deliver a presentation to the Head and the Head of Sixth Form. To apply, register on the form below and state presentation topic title.
Expressive Arts (Art, Drama and Music) Scholarship applications consist of a letter of application addressed to the Head, at the time of applying, and subsequently if shortlisted will be invited to interview and to prepare a presentation. Sports Scholarship applicants should submit a sporting CV in place of an application form. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an interview and complete a fitness test. To apply, register on the form below and submit your CV to the Registrar.
Year 12 Excellence Awards: Two academic scholarships are awarded based on GCSE mock examination performance in Years 10 and 11. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by the Head and Deputy Head (Academic) to determine the recipients of these prestigious scholarships. To apply, register on the form below.

Bursaries
St Mary’s is committed to providing an excellent education to as many students as possible who we believe would flourish at St Mary’s. On this basis we offer a small number of means-tested bursaries to promising pupils entering Senior House whose parents are unable to meet the cost of school fees.
