Entry Points
We welcome applications for girls to join us at any point in their school journey.
Our main entry points are Nursery, Reception, Year 3, Year 6, Year 7 and Year 12. You can see the application process for each year group below.
Applications made to join other year groups will be accepted, and progressed to assessment, if there is space in that year group. If there isn’t, we will add you to a waiting list, and be in touch when a place becomes available. Please note, we are holding waiting lists for all Senior School year groups.
- Nursery
We encourage early registration for a place in our thriving nursery. Places each year are limited and fill up fast, with all of our girls moving up to Reception at the end of the Nursery year(s). Registration can be completed by filling in this form and paying the £100 fee.
Once she is two years old, your daughter will be invited to a Stay and Play session in our Little St Mary’s setting where her social skills and interest in learning will be observed. An offer of a place will be made following her visit if we feel your daughter will thrive in our setting.

- Reception
To secure a place for your daughter in Reception, we recommend registering her early to avoid disappointment. You can do this by filling in and returning the Registration Form and paying the £100 fee. Our Reception Class, based in our purpose-build Early Years setting, is the perfect environment for your daughter to develop a love of learning from day one. 22nd April – Reception Stay and Play
Due to the number of girls moving up from our Nursery into Reception at the end of the 2023/2024 school year, we will only have a limited number of Reception 2024 places available. To secure your daughter’s place in Reception 2024, we recommend attending a Stay and Play as early as possible to avoid disappointment. Year 3 is a point for girls to join us who have just finished at an infant school, or those coming to the end of Key Stage 1 at another local school and are ready for small class sizes which offer a nurturing learning environment. We welcome a number of girls each year, and the admission dates are listed below.

- Year 6
The focus for girls in Year 6 at St Mary’s is to consolidate learning from the past 5 years, develop learning techniques, and gain independence to prepare them for transition into Year 7. Girls start to spread their wings with the support of the Prep Team.
Spending their final year with us in Prep (or primary school) gives girls a great grounding for joining Senior House at St Mary’s – from being familiar with the site, to having established friendship groups, and knowing Senior House teaching staff – ‘moving to secondary school’ is a smooth transition.
Those interested in joining Year 6 should register their interest by completing the Registration Form and paying the £200 registration and assessment fee. We will then be in touch in the September of Year 5 to start the admission process which involves an assessment, an interview and a reference from each applicant’s current school. Assessments will take place early in the Lent Term of the applicant’s Year 5 year.

- Year 7
Year 7 is our most oversubscribed entry point here at St Mary’s – we assess significantly more people than we have places for. We always recommend registering your daughter early for entry into Year 7 to give you the best chance of securing an offer. This can be done by completing the Registration Form and paying the £200 registration and assessment fee. We will hold a waiting list if we are unable to offer all applicants a place in the first round of offers and would hope to offer places to as many as possible on our waiting list.
The assessment process takes place in the Autumn Term of Year 6. The process involves an assessment day and interview with the Headmistress, on a separate date. Scholarship applications are welcomed – further details about the Scholarships we offer can be found here. We look forward to working with you throughout the process.
