Sports Nutrition Day – Fuel for Success!
We had an incredible day dedicated to educating our students on the vital role of Sports Nutrition and how to fuel their bodies for peak performance. Joining us were two fantastic specialists, Ellie Olds and Sasha Gibbs, whose expertise brought the topic to life through interactive workshops and practical activities.
The day began with an inspiring introduction to sports nutrition, exploring why proper fuelling is essential for training, competition, and recovery. Students were fully engaged, asking thoughtful questions and showing a real curiosity about how nutrition impacts performance. From there, we delved deeper into the science behind macronutrients, micronutrients, and hydration, helping students understand how nutritional needs vary between match days, training days, and rest days. A hands-on meal preparation activity made these concepts tangible and fun!
Ellie, who is also a professional footballer, then led an energetic football session packed with drills and mini-matches. This was the perfect opportunity to reinforce the importance of pre- and post-training nutrition for performance and recovery.
Our final workshop focused on Everyday Nutrition for Active Teens, covering practical strategies for balanced eating, gut health, and the role of sleep in recovery. Students learned how to make smarter food choices, reduce sugar intake, and incorporate more wholegrains, seeds, nuts, and fruits into their diets. They even created their own healthy snacks which were delicious energy balls! A key takeaway was the challenge to eat 30 different plants each week to boost overall health.
The feedback from students has been overwhelmingly positive. They left feeling informed, motivated, and ready to put their new knowledge into practice. It was a truly enriching day that combined education, activity, and enjoyment in equal measure!
Our thanks and gratitude go to Ellie Olds and Sasha Gibbs for dedicating their time and supporting our students in their future sporting activities.
