Students Gain Powerful Insights on History Trip to Berlin
In October, students embarked on a memorable and enriching three day history trip to Berlin, Germany’s vibrant capital. The visit offered a powerful opportunity to deepen their understanding of key historical events while exploring the city’s most significant landmarks.
A central focus of the trip was learning about the Holocaust and the persecution of Jewish people during the Second World War. Students visited the Holocaust Memorial a striking installation of grey concrete blocks designed to evoke the confusion and loss felt by victims as well as Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp, where they reflected on the difficult but vital lessons of remembrance and empathy.
The group also explored major sites across Berlin, including the Reichstag, home of the German government, with its impressive glass dome symbolising transparency and renewal. Another highlight was ascending Berlin’s tallest building to enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the city. Students gained further insight into Cold War history by visiting the former Berlin Wall, Checkpoint Charlie, and through a self-guided tour of divided Berlin.
The trip was an unforgettable experience both thought provoking and inspiring offering students a deeper appreciation of the importance of history and remembrance.
